Body Care Guidance

Daily habits that support your treatment plan and prevent bacne from returning.

Shower Within Thirty Minutes of Sweating

Bacteria and yeast thrive in warm, moist environments. After gym sessions, outdoor runs, or any activity that raises body temperature, shower as soon as practical using a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid body wash as directed by your clinician.

Wash Your Back Last

Conditioner, hair masks, and styling products often contain pore-clogging ingredients. Wash and rinse hair first, then cleanse your back and chest so residue does not sit on truncal skin during the rest of your shower.

Choose the Right Fabrics

Do

  • Loose, breathable cotton or moisture-wicking athletic fabrics
  • Clean gym clothes for every session — no re-wearing
  • Fragrance-free, dye-free laundry detergent
  • Change out of sweaty clothing immediately after workouts

Avoid

  • Tight polyester and nylon that trap heat against skin
  • Heavy backpack straps directly on bare shoulders
  • Fabric softener on sports bras and workout tops
  • Sitting in damp swimwear for extended periods

Applying Products to Hard-to-Reach Areas

We provide long-handled applicators and spray formulations for retinoids and benzoyl peroxide on the mid-back. Consistent application matters more than product strength — missing the lower back weekly will stall progress.

Sleep & Bedding

Change pillowcases twice weekly and sheets weekly. Sleep in breathable fabrics and consider showering before bed if you train in the evening. Back sleepers may benefit from slightly elevated positioning to reduce overnight sweating.

Nutrition & Supplements

While diet is not the primary cause of body acne, some patients notice flares with whey protein supplements or high-glycemic diets. Discuss any dietary changes with your provider before eliminating food groups.
